Mercy talked to us how the community run preschool has positively impacted parents in Kapita, Malawi.
“My name is Mercy Chirwa, married with 3 children. I am 35 years old and I come from Nkhwelulila village. I am a farmer and an entrepreneur. I sell baked scones and bread. Through my business, I am able to support my family with basic needs. We can afford a meal and a cup of coffee every morning. Together with my husband, we are also involved in small scale farming.
Before the coming of this preschool, my working time was very limited as I had to always look after my children and sell scones and bread. Whenever I was in the business I had to stop doing the business and attend my kids at home. But this time around I do my business without disturbance because my kids are now attending preschool. The older one is already in primary school at Kapita Primary.
The preschool has come at the right time in our area. In addition to promoting early childhood development, I also feel a great relief as a parent because the Preschool offers nutritional porridge to the kids. I am a very happy parent. I would like to commend Empower Malawi for this initiative. Tawonga chomene, thank you so much!”
