On 10 August 2010, Shanil Samarakoon, Executive Director of Empower Inc, graduated from the Sydney School for Social Entrepeneurs and received the award for Social Entrepeneur of the Year, a peer nominated award.

The award recognises his achievements in developing the "Empower Malawi" initiative, which sets out to enable entrepreneurs to build self-reliant communities. The project model is being piloted in partnership with Mzuzu University and Zatuba Village in Nothern Malawi  - Read more
